Veterinary Assistant
Hi, my name is Ashley, and I am an Oncology Veterinary Assistant at TruVet Specialty & Emergency Hospital. I am passionate about being a voice for animals and providing support to the families who love them during some of the most challenging moments of their lives. At home I have two dogs: Cooper, a Black Lab/Border Collie mix, and Koda, a mini-sized Husky mix with a personality far bigger than his frame.
Personal Hobbies and Interests
Outside of work I am happiest outdoors. You will find me dirt bike riding, wakeboarding, snowboarding, hiking, or on horseback whenever I get the chance. I also enjoy reading, playing basketball, and acting. I recently became an aunt, which has added a whole new kind of joy to my life.
Favorite Part of My Job
Getting to be a direct advocate for animals is what drives me every day. I find it deeply rewarding to support pet owners through both the hopeful moments and the difficult ones, and to know that every interaction — no matter how small — can make a real difference in a patient's comfort and care. I also love that this field never stops teaching me something new.
Why I Chose This Profession
My love for animals has always been at the heart of everything I do. I began my career as a receptionist in general practice, where I quickly discovered how much I wanted to be hands-on with patients. I cross-trained as a full-time veterinary assistant and never looked back. Oncology, in particular, drew me in because of the meaningful impact I can make — not just for the animals in our care, but for the people who cherish them.
Work History
I have spent two years working in veterinary medicine, building my skills from the ground up. Starting as a receptionist gave me a strong foundation in client communication, and transitioning into a full-time assistant role allowed me to deepen my clinical knowledge and grow into the oncology setting I am in today.
